Spiritual Healing, through the laying on of hands, links the self-healing ability of the body to the healing power of the Universe. The aim is to aid health through balancing and harmonising mind, body and spirit - our three elements of being.
Through the healer, the healing energies are attuned to the needs of the patient and go far beyond the securing of physical improvement, working on the mind, body and spirit.
You will not be asked to remove any clothing, although you may wish to remove your outdoor clothing to facilitate relaxation, and the removal of spectacles can also help in the process of relaxation.
It is very important that you relax as much as possible during a healing session because this allows the healing energies to be absorbed and to give you as much benefit as possible. Equally, keeping an open mind about the potential benefits and a positive attitude about your own health will enable you to relax and allow your body to let the healing energies flow through.
You may feel warmth as the healers hands are held close to your body or are actually laid on the body. You may also experience coolness, pressure or tingling in parts of your body or you may feel nothing at all; the healing is still taking place. The healing received is always that which is appropriate to your needs, although it may not be what you expect or hope for.
The very least that you will feel is a sense of calm and relaxation if you allow yourself to maintain an open mind and relaxed body. Many people feel this sense of calm after a healing and the body can feel more supple; often there is an easing of pain and perhaps a greater understanding and ability to cope with emotional issues in their lives.
Many people turn to healing as a last resort so that whatever ails them has built up over a period of months or even years. In some cases, the body would find it difficult to cope with a sudden resolution to a deeply rooted health imbalance so healing may be required on a regular basis. Just as the imbalance deteriorated over a period of time so the improvement may take place gradually.
Ill health is often influenced by our thoughts this can be a positive influence in that we visualise ourselves as fit and healthy and our body responds to this. Equally, however, if we view ourselves as experiencing ongoing health imbalances, the body will respond just as readily to these thoughts. Our thoughts are immensely powerful in bringing to us the level of health that we desire.
Our emotions are extremely important in maintaining our health because they are reflected in the body. If we feel anger, resentment, fear or other negative emotions, these can create health imbalances and obstruct our healing. Releasing these emotions and forgiving ourselves and others for any perceived wrongs makes a difference to the effectiveness of healing. Healing influences our emotions and our physical body so that we can bring ourselves back into harmony.
The healing energies will often help to clarify our thoughts about many issues in our lives and discussing them with your healer will often help to release any thoughts and emotions that are hindering your progress back to full health.
Healing is not a substitute or an alternative to orthodox medical treatment but it is complementary to these other forms of treatment, and some doctors recognise the benefits of healing in supplementing their own work with patients.
Nobody can guarantee to cure illness, not even an orthodox medical practitioner. The healers Code of Conduct will not allow them to give a diagnosis or countermand the advice or treatment prescribed by your doctor.
The healer must always ask you whether you have consulted your doctor about your health imbalance and advise arrange an appointment if you have not already done so. We would recommend that you tell your doctor that you are receiving healing for a specific health imbalance but it is your choice.
Some doctors today have healers working with them and will refer you to them.
Many healers do visit people in their homes to channel healing, particularly if the patient if housebound or disabled in some way. When contacting a healer, it is best to discuss this with them at that time.
Some terminally ill patients experience a great deal of pain and discomfort. Healing can alleviate or reduce this so that the patient can relax more easily.
But the greatest benefit of healing for the terminally ill is that it usually brings about a sense of peace and tranquillity. This can help to diminsh or completely eliminate the fear of death, creating a much better experience for the patient and for their carers.
When healing is being channelled to the patient, it is a good idea to have the carer in the room at the same time as they will also benefit from the healing energies.
The UK Healers' Code of Conduct and Professional Indemnity Insurance conditions demand that records of healing sessions are kept.
A brief account of each visit is recorded together with progress reports and these have the same confidentiality as your NHS records. These records will also go to your doctor if they have referred you but otherwise they remain with the healer.
Despite its name, spiritual healing is non-religious. It does take place in spiritualist churches but even then the religious aspect of the church is not necessarily a factor.
Many healers do not participate in any religion or religious ceremonies but have a deep and profound faith in something greater than themselves. They trust that this force will flow through them to do the greatest good.
The healing energy will flow through you regardless of whether you have any beliefs or not; it is a manifestation of unconditional love expressed through the healer. The most important factor is that you keep an open mind about healing and, therefore, remain open to absorbing the energies.
Animals respond very well to healing, despite the fact that they do not 'know' what is happening in the same way as ourselves.
But animals intuitively seem to understand what is happening because, unlike humans, they often move away when they have received enough healing.
Many Healers do not charge, but if travel is involved then expenses are appreciated. Some accept a donation towards their work, often in the form of a charity box. Others may charge a professional fee and this issue should be discussed when you first contact the healer.
When you first make contact with a healer, it is a good idea to ask if they belong to a healing organisation. You are also entitled to see their current, up to date membership card. Most healers will have their certificates displayed so that you can check this easily.
Your safeguard is whether they are registered with UK Healers or not which can be checked by reference to UK Healers via the link on our Home Page.
